Nicole Ari Parker is an American stage and television actor known for her performance as the spirited attorney Teri Joseph in the Showtime series Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe is her new name since she got married. While growing up living in Baltimore, Maryland, she was always interested in acting. In an Maryland high school contest at the beginning of her education she received the award for the best actress. In the years following her work in theater, and with 'The Washington Ballet Company' she graduated with a degree in acting from 'New York University. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love was a film that earned her a top-quality role. This was followed by films such as "Boogie Nights Spark", Blue Streak". Soul Food, her TV show, was widely praised due to her performance. Also, she appeared in TV Series such as Second Time Around 'and Empire. In the beginning of her career she was a part of a number of stage productions. Parker with a strong political interest, is married with actor/model Boris Kodjoe. Two children were born to them.
The family was born in Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria until the age of seven. Contractor was well-informed about traveling around the globe and in a wide range of cultures at a very young age. She attended boarding school at the age of 7 until 9 in London. Then, she and her family returned to Toronto (Canada) where they lived for the rest of her childhood. Contractor trained and eventually became a classical dancer in Toronto. In the Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public high school that specializes in the arts) the student studied dance and theatre. When she was 16 after a decade of years of dance Contractor discovered she was looking to take up acting as a profession. After graduating high school, Contractor accepted a scholarship at the University of Toronto to pursue the dual field of psychology and sociology. Additionally, she earned a Master's degree in Theatre. Contractor was offered the lead role in Pericles after a one-year stint in University. She was a part of the audition for it during the Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and received. The show she played in 92 performances received acclaim from Canadian reviewers. The actor was invited to enroll in Stratford's conservatory course, in which only eight males and four women are accepted for a 20-week crash course in classical theatre, which she gladly accepted. The actress's spot in the next play season was secured and she was chosen of Hermia.
